Vijaycoomarsingh Bhujohory named as new chairman of Mauritius tourism board

Travel and tourism is the lifeline on the island state of Mauritius in the southern Indian Ocean. The new person left in charge with this important industry is Vijaycoomarsingh (Raj) Bhujohory.

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is delighted to announce the appointment of the Hon. Anil. K. Gayan as Minister of Tourism on Monday January 23, 2017, followed by the assignment of Vijaycoomarsingh Bhujohory, also known as Raj, as new chairman of tourism board as from Friday April 28, 2017.

A lawyer by profession, Anil Gayan was Minister of Health and Quality of Life during the first two years of the current mandate. He is also familiar to the tourism sector, having been Minister of Tourism on two occasions, namely in 1983 and 2003.

Raj Bhujohory is a highly motivated and accomplished business leader with a broad exposure in the Aviation & Tourism Industry, a Fellow of Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA) and a member of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) with extensive financial and commercial expertise, who has played a key role in the organic growth of the national carrier, Air Mauritius Ltd, during 22 years in office.

He has a wide experience in Route & Market Development in Europe, Africa, Australasia, regional and the emerging markets, namely India and China. He has always believed in close collaboration with the principal stakeholders of the industry, namely the hoteliers, tour-operators and DMCs.

As the chairman of the MTPA, Raj Bhujohory will harness all existing resources and create the right environment to maintain the level of growth in our tourism industry and further develop opportunities in existing and new markets with untapped potential. He will also provide the necessary assistance to all service providers in the cruise segment. His main focus will be quality, service delivery and progressive and sustainable increase in tourist arrivals.

“Mauritius is a well-known destination but we still need to create “brand Mauritius” and better package our product to showcase the exclusiveness of our destination in our core markets. And this can only be done with everybody on board”, said Raj Bhujohory, who has been involved in various business transformation projects and change management initiatives ranging from Company Rebranding, Product Repositioning to Corporate Strategic Review with key Industry Leaders.
